How it works

About the live game tracker

The Live Game Tracker follows every NHL game as it happens using the league's public play-by-play feed. Pick a game from today's slate (or step back to any earlier day) to see the score, shots and a running expected-goals (xG) total for both teams. Every unblocked shot is scored by the BluelineMetrics xG model, which estimates the chance it becomes a goal from its distance, angle, shot type, rebound and rush context and the game strength, so you can tell whether a team is winning on chance quality or riding its goaltender.

Win probability starts from our pregame model and updates with the score, the clock, the manpower situation and the xG flow. The shot map plots each attempt on the rink, sized by danger, and the advanced tabs break down high-danger chances, player shot shares and any slice of game time you choose. Box scores and final xG stay available after the horn, so the page doubles as a results archive.
