Player comparison

Player Comparison puts any two NHL players side by side on the same BluelineMetrics scale. Pick a player on each side and the tool lines up their overall ratings, the six components behind them (offense, defense, play driving, finishing, power play and penalty kill), wins above replacement, and their contracts, including the model's verdict on whether each deal is Underpaid, Fair or Overpaid.

Because every rating is a percentile within position, a 90 means the same thing for a center and a defenseman: better than roughly 90% of players at that position. That makes it useful for arguments the box score cannot settle, such as whether a 30-goal winger who gives chances back is more valuable than a quieter two-way center. You can also compare career arcs season by season and share the result as an image.
